Review the following CDC publication of Best Practices of Youth Violence Prevention: A Sourcebook for Community Action is the first of its kind to look at the effectiveness of specific violence prevention practices in four key areas: parents and families; home visiting; social and conflict resolution skills; and mentoring.
These programs are drawn from real-world experiences of professionals and advocates who have successfully worked to prevent violence among children and adolescents:

Internet-Based Exercises
- Childabuse.com publishes a quarterly newsletter, editions of which you can read online. Search this site to locate the latest copy of their newsletter. Write a brief report on at least one prevention initiative aimed at preventing child abuse and neglect. Go to: http://www.childabuse.com
- A recent study reports that young Indian women and teenage girls of Native American heritage suffer the highest rates of abuse in the United States. This finding includes African American women who suffer at the hands of their abusers, ranking second in the nation behind Native American women. Research the following site: http://www.jaicja.org and identify the policy changes that attempt to address and remedy this situation.
- Include in your paper an outline describing the violence which most commonly occurs on the reservations.

Conclusion
As we complete the introductory course on Family Violence, identification and prevention; ask yourself what steps you would take if you witnessed abuse either within your own family or that of a friend? How would you respond, would you know who to call? Would you feel guilty for making that call? We will conclude the discussion sections with these questions, be prepared to respond to a roundtable discussion the final week.
