I am Joy McQuiston, author of Cruel Deception, a book written on child abuse and domestic violence. Joy McQuiston When I embarked upon this venture of writing this candid story, initially I possessed the compelling notion that the therapeutic benefits I would receive from extracting the horrific and intrusive memories and applying them to paper, would offer me a tremendous amount of relief.

Thankfully, this proved to be true.

This preliminary step opened doors for me I didn't realize were there, and has placed me upon a healthy path toward recovery. My intense desire to reach out and to possibly help others, who have been victimized as a child or as an adult, grew enormously. It is at this time I recognized in myself the capacity to write in a way where others could take in my words and begin to stir compassion within themselves, thus, allowing me to awaken our society that child abuse and domestic violence does exist and can be so devastating to the victim for the remainder of their lives.

However, the most important lesson I have learned from this is that I have the liberty to make choices for myself, and by choosing to no longer remain a victim, I have given myself a life I have always deserved - a life of happiness and a sense of well-being. Our world is beautiful and I hope others will join me on this uplifting journey.
